A way to cope: Life without torrents

22 Aug

Suffering from torrent withdrawal symptoms? You’re not the only one. IPRED certainly makes life a bit depressing sometimes. But there are ways to cope.

I will give you my best advice for getting music and still (read almost) respect the new directives:The Killers Sams Town

The local library – Seems old-school, but hey, great music can be found in the most dusty libraries! For instance I just borrowed the new album from Empire of the Sun and another great one by The Killers and copied them directly into my iTunes library. With this solution you get fabulous albums with cd-quality without even being online. Piece of cake, as well as fool-proof.

DownloadHelper –A little add-on you can use in FireFox to detect media on a site. When there is, you will see the icon spin and by pressing it, you can download it from the URL. Here’s the address: https://addons.mozilla.org/sv-SE/firefox/addon/3006

Last.FM –Believe it or not, but sometimes they let you download certain songs directly from their page. Just keep your eyes open.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away! iPod 4 Life

31 Jul

The iconic mp3-players are everywhere. All the time. Apple has conquered the world with their stylish, yet functional design. The marketing is beyond enormous; Apple is part of our daily life, and we all stroll around with the characteristic white headphones in our ears. Whatever your favourite genre might be, we all agree that music is vital. Most people can’t live without it. So, investing in an iPod seems like a great idea for collecting all your music in one place. No wonder iPods are popular!

Every new generation of iPods becomes better, thinner, more chic with fancier colours and new effects. On top of that, the amount of music that goes into one player increases incredibly fast.

Why is the development like this? Well simply because there is a demand for it.

And what about the demand?

I believe the key to Apple’s success with their iPods is the simple fact that people download music illegally. How could we afford filling up our iPods otherwise?

Let me explain this in a simple if-statement:

if  (downloading  >  buying){
ipod = success;
}

In the near future there will definitely be a catch-22 for the music industry and the ones holding onto the old copyright laws.

Who do you think will win the battle?

Tomorrow it is time for the EU-election and the swedish party Piratpartiet have high chances of getting a seat. During the past weeks, the party’s brochures have been spread everywhere at the ITU. But is it true that computer geeks really vote for file sharing?

I know that many of us can’t resist downloading stuff; but does that mean that we for that reason want downloading to be legal? Or is just the possibility of downloading that brand new game, or that lovely new album too tempting?

Tomorrow is your last chance of voting in the election. And whatever your opinion might be, it’s really important that you vote. Make your voice heard!
