Salvations for software people lost in a fashion disaster

3 Sep

After posting the picture of James Gosling, wearing his horrible t-shirt with Galileo Galilei, I felt powerless. Just like a vegetarian can’t convert a world of carnivores, I can’t make a fashion statement in the field of computer science.  Like wildcard said in a comment:

“…outward appearance is just not that important to them. Not worth putting any time or energy into.

I guess that only works if you are so smart that people will listen to you no matter how you dress. ;)

Apparently.

But still, there is something about programmers and t-shirt prints. They can’t simply live without them (or for that reason checked shirts). –Why?

Some days ago I relaxed in the library downstairs and grabbed my favourite magazine Computer arts. And I saw (to my surprise) totally awesome t-shirt prints. I instantly realized that there is a middle way! A compromise for all the software developers out there!

You could stay who you are, but put and edge to it. Sounds reasonable?

James Gosling keeping up appearances

They are incredibly smart.

They make a lot of money.

They change the world with their clever ideas.

But when it comes to clothing…

They

are

the

fashion

disasters.

Why is it that people with brains tend to forget how they look?

Here’s a list with some people with wits and no taste:

  • Albert Einstein –Surely one of the most intelligent people ever known. All the same he never seemed to comb his hair. If he even owned a comb is a mystery.
  • James Gosling –Founder of the Java programming language. He is probably well-paid where he works at Sun Microsystems. Yet, he just seems to wear geeky t-shirts that he has bought from E-bay. Come on, this guy could most likely afford anything he wanted. But still, he is happy with his utterly bohemian appearance. Oh, dear.
  • Scott Guthrie –Vice president of the Microsoft Developer Divison, puts his t-shirt into his jeans, which are way too high. This look seems to be copied from the movie ‘Napoleon Dynamite’.

Do you have an explanation of this phenomenon?
